Why 12 mm over 8 mm.
KONO Harbor is a 12 mm board with a 2 mm pad attached, 14 mm in total. Thickness is what makes laminate feel solid and quiet underfoot instead of thin and clicky.
A thicker board is stiffer, so it rides over small subfloor dips without flexing, and it gives the click joint more material to hold. It also takes deeper surface texture, which is what makes a print read as wood. 8 mm laminate is cheaper, but it is the one that sounds hollow.
Check door clearances and transitions before you buy: 14 mm with the pad is taller than most vinyl. Our estimate includes transitions to carpet and tile. Installed, 12 mm laminate starts at $6.10 per sqft in the Sacramento area.

At 14 mm with the pad, the new floor sits about 9/16 inch above the subfloor. Next to carpet that is usually close to level; next to tile or vinyl it needs a reducer strip. Exterior doors and dishwasher openings are the spots to measure before ordering.
A thick board also handles imperfect subfloors better: it bridges small dips instead of rocking over them, and the joints stay tight. That does not replace leveling, but it reduces how much is needed in older homes with uneven slabs.

Is 12mm laminate better than 8mm?
It feels more solid, sounds quieter and forgives subfloor flaws better. Scratch resistance depends on the AC rating, not thickness.
Does the 14 mm include the pad?
