Color groups are a guide: undertones shift with daylight and lamps, and one plank can sit in two groups. Pick up a free sample and look at it on your own floor.

European oak is a white oak: calm, tight grain that takes natural, pale and gray finishes evenly. Red oak is warmer, with a pink-tan cast and bold open grain that hides everyday wear. Both are hard, proven flooring woods.

The layer of real oak on top of the board. It sets how many times the floor can be sanded and refinished: about 2 mm allows a light refinish, 3 to 4 mm allows full ones. It is the difference between a floor you keep for decades and one you replace.

Plank width. Wider boards show more grain and make a room calmer; every board we stock is wide plank, 7 inches and up. Lengths are 75 or 87 inches, so rooms take few end joints.

How the boards join. Tongue and groove boards are nailed or glued to the subfloor, the traditional method. Click boards lock together and float over most flat floors, which is faster and goes over concrete without glue.

Materials per square foot. Installation by our crews in the Sacramento area adds $4.35 per sqft; removal, baseboard and stairs are priced per room.

A collection is one spec (thickness, wear layer, width) in several colors. Mixing colors from one collection keeps the floor height and feel identical between rooms.

Prices are per sqft, materials only. Box coverage differs by collection and is listed on each color.

Real wood, without the drama.

European and red oak. 2 to 4 mm wear layers. Planks up to 9-1/2 by 87 inches.

Solid wood moves with a Sacramento summer; engineered oak holds its shape. Our hardwood runs from a 14 mm European oak with a 2 mm wear layer to an 18 mm board with a 4 mm wear layer and 87 inch planks. Every color page lists its own species, thickness, wear layer and plank size.

The wear layer is what separates a hardwood floor you keep from one you replace: the thicker it is, the more times the floor can be sanded and refinished. Our collections offer 2, 3 and 4 mm oak on top, wire-brushed, in tongue-and-groove and click profiles. The calculator prices materials and installation for your room.

Wood is a natural product, so boards vary within a color on purpose. A free sample is the honest preview of that range. We publish only what the manufacturer has put in writing; finish and warranty details are listed on each color as they arrive.

Hardwood or laminate: which one is yours?

Hardwood is the floor people mean when they say wood: real oak on top, refinishable, and it ages instead of wearing out. It also costs more and asks for dry rooms and wiped-up spills.

  • You want the real thing: oak on top, so it sands, stains and repairs like wood.
  • Long horizon: a 3 to 4 mm wear layer leaves room for several refinishes.
  • Resale: hardwood is still the line item buyers in this market look for.

Choose laminate instead if

  • Budget leads: laminate costs less per sqft and takes rougher treatment.
  • Dogs, kids, chair wheels: AC4 laminate resists scratching better than any wood finish.
  • Wet rooms: neither hardwood nor laminate belongs in a full bath. That is LVP territory.

Hardwood questions, answered straight.

Engineered or solid hardwood?

Engineered, on purpose. A layered core holds its shape through a Central Valley summer and over a concrete slab, where solid wood cups and gaps. The part you walk on is real oak either way.

Can it be refinished?

Yes. How many times depends on the wear layer: 2 mm takes a light refinish, 3 to 4 mm takes several full sand-and-finish cycles. Each color page lists its wear layer.

Hardwood in a kitchen?

Kitchens, yes, with normal wipe-up habits. Full bathrooms and laundry rooms, no: water sitting at a seam is what kills wood floors. Those rooms take KONO LVP.

How much does installation add?

Hardwood is the most demanding floor we install: subfloor flatness matters more, and glue-down over slab is slower. The calculator prices your room.
